LIFE JAM GUY is supposed to be unbeatable, and there are a set of fail safes in the game's code to prevent players from doing that:.However, judging from the filename of the song "battle_dough_dungeon", its official title, and placement in the OST, it seems that it was meant to be primarily used as a battle theme for BREAVEN.This is most likely an oversight left by the developers themselves. LIFE JAM GUY's battle theme is notably reused for ORANGE OASIS after defeating the HUSHPUPPIES.In fact, he is the only enemy fought within the BOSS RUSH to have this option available. During his BOSS RUSH encounter, the party can actually run away from LIFE JAM GUY to progress to the next round of the simulation, though selecting that option is optional.This could force no-item players to reload. If the party refuses to take the free samples of LIFE JAM, LIFE JAM GUY would still initiate the battle.
According to some unused dialogue, LIFE JAM GUY was originally planned to first appear at the FOREST PLAYGROUND after defeating BOSS, in which he offers the group some LIFE JAM to help heal KEL, who was turned into TOAST during the aftermath of the battle. The LIFE JAM GUY's design draws inspiration from the Kool-Aid Man, and possibly the mascot of Fujiya's Milky Chocolate, Peko-chan. After a few turns, he will run away as his presence is just there to grant the party a means of restoring a party member back to life for the remaining boss fights. On ONE DAY LEFT of the OMORI ROUTE, LIFE JAM GUY can also be found in the BOSS RUSH simulator, right after the battle with SIR MAXIMUS I, II and III. The outcome of the battle will remain same as the one shown in the JUNKYARD. If the player hasn't tried out his "free demo" at the JUNKYARD, they can fight him there. On TWO DAYS LEFT, LIFE JAM GUY appears again at the third floor of LAST RESORT, where he will sell LIFE JAM again. If you talk to him after this, he will offer to sell you some LIFE JAM. After he does so, the battle with LIFE JAM GUY will end, and he will restore your party to full health. After turning every party member besides OMORI into TOAST, he'll give OMORI some LIFE JAM and instruct him to use it to revive his friends. Regardless of the choice the party chooses, either accepting or denying his free sample, the battle with LIFE JAM GUY will begin automatically. LIFE JAM GUY is first encountered in the JUNKYARD during the PROLOGUE, where he bursts out of a garbage container and asks if OMORI and his friends want a free demo of LIFE JAM. He also has a tendency to say "haha" after sentences. However, despite his benevolent demeanor, LIFE JAM GUY is rather dangerous as his free samples involve defeating all party members not before offering a wounded OMORI three samples of LIFE JAM.Įven though he appears to be menacing and threatening to the party, he doesn't have any ill intentions of harming them, only wanting to explain the benefits of LIFE JAM. LIFE JAM GUY is shown to be amicable to the party, and offers them free samples of LIFE JAM. In battle, LIFE JAM GUY's jar of jam gets a happy face. He is always seen carrying a small jar of jam and gives a thumbs up in both his overworld and battle sprite. LIFE JAM GUY resembles a large jar of red-colored jam, often shown winking at the player.
